Vlatka and Hilary : Up Close

Hello, friends!

We had so much fun getting to learn all about Vlatka and Hilary’s friendship in Episode Six of the Hello Again, Friend Podcast. We thought it would be fun to get to know them each a little better, and you KNOW we LOVE the question game - one of our fave ways of connecting.

Here’s what our new friends had to say…

Q: What is your favorite mom dinner?

Hillary: I don't really pick off of my kids' plates like we see in the "mom dinner" trend. If it's just me, I love some Indian food delivery, or else you'll find me making a grazing plate of random things like chicken, cucumbers, chocolate chips and whatever odds and ends I can find in my kitchen

Vlatka: I love a good mushroom sauce and a fresh baguette

Q: What is your ideal mom hangout plan?

Hillary: Anything low key where we can unwind and have something delicious to snack on. Going somewhere cute for a coffee or appetizers date is always nice if we need to get out of the house!

Vlatka: Delicious food and a good movie in (that we can talk throughout ), but I also like to get dressed up and go to a fancy spot for some cocktails or mocktails!

Q: What is most restorative for your soul?

Hillary: Being able to wake up on my own terms, without kids or alarms interrupting. Can't really call it sleeping in like I could before kids, but I'll take what I can get

Vlatka: Traveling, anywhere. Staying in hotels. I have the best sleep in hotels!

Q: Tell about a time you had to laugh at the silliness/absurdness/hilarity of parenting.

Hillary: Sometimes the things the kids get upset about (and their corresponding reactions) are so funny to us that we have to step away so they can't see us laughing. I also never thought I'd have to give someone emotional support hugs while they poop, but here we are.

Vlatka: Laughing at the fact that my daughter is me… when I was little. Opinionated and stubborn, so getting upset at her is hard because she is me

Q: Pie or cake? Cookie or candy?

Hillary: Yes, please! Do I have to choose? I don't discriminate against sweets - just depends on my mood

Vlatka: Pie! And a good buttery cookie, not too sweet but with a good crumb!

Q: Favorite quote that is your North Star?

Hillary: "Where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and there is always time."

Vlatka: “Well behaved women rarely make history”

“You can be mad but don’t be mean” something I use for my daughter and for me

Q: A mom mentor I admire is....... because.........

Hillary: I look up to my mom because she's a great mom and she's always evolving and still helping me shape myself into the best version of myself - and I see her doing the same for herself. She admits when she's wrong, gives me space to make my own mistakes and is always there for me. She gives me good advice, and gives me different perspectives to consider.

Vlatka: Both my mom and mother in law. For their resilience, their tireless energy and for always making the best with what they had.
